According to many conservative leaders, Donald Trump is the most pro-life president in American history.
- He's "the most pro-life president in history", said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, America's largest pro-life PAC.
- "President Trump is the most pro-life President in history", said the pro-life group Priests for Life.
- President Trump "is the most #prolife President in history", tweeted his senior advisor Kellyanne Conway.
Here's why the pro-life community is so happy with President Trump:
He reinstated the Mexico City Policy, and then expanded it.
This policy blocks federal funding for family planning organizations overseas that provide abortion services.
Historically, under Republican presidents the policy is enforced. Under Democratic presidents the policy is rescinded.
Trump is not only enforcing the policy but, unlike any previous Republican president, has expanded the ban to include ALL health care providers, not just family planning groups.
This is a huge expansion. Under President Bush, the Mexico City Policy covered about $600 million in federal spending. Under Trump, it now covers $8.8 billion.
He's appointed many pro-lifers to the administration and the courts.
President Trump has appointed many people with pro-life views throughout the federal government.
The most notable of these would be Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Ben Carson, Nikki Haley, Sam Brownback and Kellyanne Conway.
There are countless others. Their names may not make headlines, but they're promoting the pro-life agenda at all levels of the federal government.
In a 2016 presidential debate, Trump said:
"I am pro-life, and I will be appointing pro-life judges."
He's followed through on this commitment, appointing over 200 pro-life judges to the federal courts.
He was the first president to speak at the March for Life in Washington, DC, the largest pro-life gathering every year.
"It is my profound honor to be the first president in history to attend the March for Life."
“We are here for a very simple reason: to defend the right of every child, born and unborn, to fulfill their God-given potential".
"Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House."
He's promoting adoption as an alternative to abortion.
In a proclamation declaring the month of November "National Adoption Month", he stated:
"Every year, generous and loving families adopt thousands of children and provide them with the affection, attention, and opportunity they deserve. Adoption is a true blessing that greatly enriches the lives of parents and children alike."
"My Administration recognizes the profound importance of adoption for the American family. Adoption is a life-changing and life-affirming act that signals that no child in America — born or unborn — is unwanted or unloved."
He defeated Hillary Clinton.
Perhaps his biggest gift to the pro-life movement was his defeat of Hillary Clinton, who has a 100% rating from NARAL, the abortion advocacy group.
So these are some of the reasons why the pro-life community loves President Trump. He’s delivered on all their important issues.
