President Obama told President Trump, on his first day in office, that the biggest threat facing the United States was a nuclear war with North Korea, according to news reports.
It appears that Trump listened, as he quickly opened up a direct line of communication with North Korea’s leader, and arranged meetings with him in 2018 and 2019.
In his book “Rage”, about the Trump administration, author and journalist Bob Woodward says that Trump told him that America was indeed close to war with North Korea, but today both leaders have a “friendly relationship” and are communicating openly and respectfully.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean that war with North Korea isn’t still a real danger.
It just means that President Trump, through solid American leadership, appears to have pulled America back from the brink and bought more time for diplomacy.

“Today, we meet at a point in time where it has become very clear that the strength of the American president, where he really saw to it that the sanctions against North Korea are respected, has opened new possibilities, opened new ways.”
South Korean Director of National Security, Chung Eui-yong, as reported by Reuters:
“I explained to President Trump that his leadership and his maximum pressure policy, together with international solidarity, brought us to this juncture. I expressed President Moon Jae-in’s personal gratitude for President Trump’s leadership.”
South Korean Foreign Minister, Kang Kyung-wha, as reported by CNN:
South Korea’s foreign minister has said she believes President Donald Trump is largely responsible for bringing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the negotiating table.
“Clearly, credit goes to President Trump,” Kang told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour. “He’s been determined to come to grips with this from day one.”
South Korean President, Moon Jae-in, as reported by the BBC:
South Korean President Moon Jae-in said publicly too that President Trump deserved big credit for bringing about talks to discuss peace with the North.
He added:
“President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize.”
